Chancay, Peru

Chancay is a historic port city located 50 miles north of Lima. Its population currently exceeds 63,000 inhabitants and is growing quickly.

Local beliefs blend a deep-rooted Catholic fervor—evident in the massive Holy Week processions—with the mysticism inherited from the ancient Chancay culture.

The economy in general centers on artisanal fishing, agriculture, and tourism driven by the Chancay Castle. However, the recent inauguration of its modern megaport has shifted the local economy toward international logistics, also attracting an alarming rise in crime and extortion by criminal gangs.
